Hawke's Bay Outdoor Leisure Club,New Zealand,naturist/nudist club

Hawke’s Bay Naturist Club is the only naturist/nudist club in the district. Manawatu Outdoor Leisure Club lies 230 km to the south and Rotota Sun Club 150km to the northwest.

Philosophy.

We are affiliated to the New Zealand Naturist Federation and the International Naturist Federation. The INF describes "Naturism as a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, which is an essential part of naturism. It fully exploits the beneficial effects of the sun, the air and water and is characterised by a respect for people with different opinions and respect for the environment."

Sun Dangers.

Our club began in 1962 as the Hawke’s Bay Sun Club, but later perceptions over skin cancer caused us to change our emphasis and our name. However, we know of no evidence that naturists have higher skin cancer rates than normal. Perhaps a light tan from little and often in the sun gives some protection? Even so, most naturists are very careful about being out in the sun, and we have plenty of shady places to cater for them.

Hawke’s Bay Naturist Club is a registered Incorporated Society owned and run by our members. General meetings allow members to elect our Officers and committee, decide policy and discuss their ideas and concerns.

Our committee meets monthly and whenever else necessary to manage day to day club affairs. All members are welcome to attend these meetings except when confidential matters are being discussed.

We organise regular parties in our clubhouse, barbecues, outings and beach days. Some of these are dressed occasions when we can invite interested friends.

Members and visitors are welcome at Rapere at any time but Sunday is a popular day when you will find many members enjoying the facilities and friendship at Rapere. Right from our first years it has been the custom to gather in the clubhouse at 3pm on Sundays for a cuppa and a chat, so a roster is run in summer to do the necessary catering and cleaning.

Our grounds have been developed since 1963 almost entirely by the hard work of our own members. To keep subscriptions reasonable we have to do maintenance and development projects the same way. No one is compelled to help, but most find that pitching in to help is very rewarding. The more you put in, the more you get out of your club.

Members of NZNF affiliated clubs and holders of International Naturist Federation passports are welcome to visit and holiday at Rapere. The same rights are usually given by other naturist clubs in New Zealand and worldwide.

Getting There.

There is no public transport to our grounds. The nearest bus and airport terminals are at Napier 22km away, so you really need your own car to get there.

Accommodation.

Norm’s Lodge is a renovated 3 bedroom cottage available for hire. It has two rooms each with a double bed and single bed, one with a cot, plus a bunkroom which sleeps six. There is a fully equipped electric kitchen, bath, shower, toilet and a lounge/dining room with an open fireplace.
You will need to bring your own food and cater for yourself. All beds have mattress and pillows but you will need to bring linen, blankets and duvets. In special cases we may be able to hire bedding at a negotiated cost.

Camping.

We have lots of places to pitch a tent, either beside the Lodge, in a quiet glade or overlooking Lake Rapere. The clubhouse has showers, toilets, electric cookers, microwave oven, refrigerators, dining, lounge and games area for you use.

Van Sites.

There are many sites for caravans and campervans, several with 230v AC electricity outlets. The clubhouse toilet and kitchen facilities are again yours to use.

Shopping.

The nearest hotel, food and liquor stores and petrol pump are at Puketapu 15km away. 19 km away at Taradale is the nearest shopping centre and supermarket.
