South Canterbury Sun Club Inc.,New Zealand

The Club always welcomes new members, particularly families and couples.

The original old school serves as our Clubhouse where we hold gatherings, social events, meetings etc. There is a kitchen with most electrical appliances and utensils associated with catering for individual or group meals. There is also a gas range and oven.

We have a swimming pool (not heated) which is maintained for members use over the summer months. Supervision of children is the responsibility of their respective Parents/Caregivers.

For those who enjoy a game of tennis we have a full sized court which is also marked for mini-ten.

The concrete surface is however a bit on the rough side.

We have a Petanque Piste but you will need to provide your own boules.

There are separate Toilet and Shower Blocks with the later having gas and solid fuel heated water.

Laundry facilities are located in the Shower Block.

Accommodation is available in a Bunkhouse which has two separate rooms, each sleeping four persons. (One double bed and two bunks.)

South Canterbury Sun Club has numerous powered sites for caravans and campervans as well as ample camping sites.

Our Club was formed in 1971, and since then we have had several grounds in the greater South Canterbury area.

In 1990 we entered into a management agreement with the Department of Conservation for the historical Tripp Settlement Reserve, which dates back to 1895, and have made this our base ever since.

We have made considerable progress into transforming the reserve from its original use as the local school into the facilities necessary for our Clubs use. Our progress has only been possible by the generosity and dedication of our long serving membership, both past and present. Hopefully further improvements will continue with the same support and dedication of current and new members.

Membership of the Club totals between 50 and 55 people of mainly mature couples. They are drawn from all walks of life and are predominately from the greater South Canterbury region alhough some come from as far a field as Christchurch, Oamaru, Hakataramea, and Dunedin.
